Join the executive board

NNETESOL’s Executive Board is a group of volunteers (most of whom serve for one to three years) who meet several times a year to implement policy matters, conduct the daily business of the association, produce conferences, and oversee its work.

Descriptions of Board Positions

  1. President – The President shall preside at all Executive Board and business meetings. In their absence, the President-Elect and Past President shall assume the duties of the President, successively. The responsibilities of the President include the following: notifying Executive Board members of meetings; providing leadership in assessing and meeting the needs of the association; leading the annual tri-state conference (e.g., planning, preparation, promotion, implementation, evaluation) with the support of all board members; and announcing the results of all votes cast by the Executive Board and NNETESOL members. The President shall appoint such committees as the Executive Board deems necessary.
  2. President-Elect As the successor to the President, the President-Elect shall provide leadership in assessing and meeting the needs of the association. The responsibilities of the President-Elect include the following: assisting the President with the annual tri-state conference; and coordinating NNETESOL grant applications (e.g., collecting, compiling, distributing, notifying recipients). The President-Elect, along with the Past President, shall preside over meetings in the absence of the President.  
  3. Past President The Past President shall serve as the TESOL International Association affiliate representative and liaison, informing TESOL annually through a written report of NNETESOL’s news, activities, conferences, and projects. The responsibilities of the Past President include the following: assisting and advising the President; attending the TESOL International Convention and affiliate sessions; serving as the chairperson of the Nominating Committee; and overseeing the mentoring of new board members.
  4. Secretary – The Secretary shall record, retain, and disseminate the minutes of all Executive Board and business meetings. The responsibilities of the Secretary include the following: keeping records (e.g., official documents, correspondence) of the association; recording all votes cast by the Executive Board and NNETESOL members; and handling official correspondence as delegated by the President.
  5. Treasurer – The Treasurer shall conduct (e.g., record, maintain, monitor) the financial business of the association. The responsibilities of the Treasurer include the following: projecting annual tri-state conference expenses and revenue; maintaining online registration for conferences, and collecting and depositing conference registration fees; assisting the Webmaster in paying for the domain and web hosting; presenting financial reports at each Executive Board and business meeting; coordinating travel and stipends for keynote speakers and the TESOL International Association affiliate representative; and submitting written budget reports as requested by the President, Executive Board, and/or TESOL International Association.  
  6. Publishers’ Liaison – The Publishers’ Liaison shall solicit and invite representatives from regional and national publishing companies and higher education institutions to the annual tri-state conference to display teaching and learning resources for English language learners. The responsibilities of the Publishers’ Liaison include the following: contacting publishers and higher education representatives by email and/or phone; answering exhibitors’ conference questions; assisting exhibitors with set-up; collecting materials for the raffle; thanking exhibitors for their participation; notifying exhibitors of future conferences; and acting as their liaison with the President.
  7. Webmaster The Webmaster shall maintain the association’s website and email server and work collaboratively with the Social Media Coordinator. The responsibilities of the Webmaster include the following: preserving an accurate and up-to-date web presence; regularly checking and distributing or responding to email sent to the association’s mailbox; updating and sharing current membership lists with the Executive Board; communicating with the Treasurer to ensure that the domain and web hosting are paid; periodically assessing the website and discussing any proposed changes with the Executive Board; and updating Executive Board member profiles to ensure they reflect currently held positions.
  8. Social Media Coordinator  The Social Media Coordinator shall maintain the association’s social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, and the blog) and work collaboratively with the Webmaster. The responsibilities of the Social Media Coordinator include the following: creating and posting resources and news across platforms; soliciting blog posts, resources, news, and event opportunities from board members (e.g., via the volunteer calendar, email reminders, etc.); coordinating the logistics, outreach, and organization of the blog to ensure consistency; and assisting board members in navigating the association’s social media platforms.
  9. Veteran Member-at-Large – The Veteran Member-at-Large shall foster a sense of community among Executive Board members and association members. This individual shall be recruited and nominated by the Past President from among those who have previously served on the NNETESOL Executive Board. The responsibilities of the Veteran Member-at-Large include the following: welcoming attendees at the annual tri-state conference; maintaining and annually updating a list of professional sources for gathering information for the state reports; assisting with non-conference-related professional development opportunities; and completing other duties as assigned by the President.
  10. State Representatives Two from each state, the State Representatives shall serve as liaisons between their respective state members and the association. The responsibilities of State Representatives include the following: compiling and presenting a collaboratively written report of statewide events, news, and resources relevant to the membership at least twice a year; helping to scout annual tri-state conference locations when the conference is to be hosted in their state; assisting with the annual tri-state conference (e.g., vetting proposals, creating signs, distributing signs, staffing the registration desk); and organizing a spring gathering to connect local members in their respective states, with the help of other state board members.
